  1. Sheila is right, this bird does not sound like it is weaned and the man should not have sold it to you and he certainly should have known how old it was if it was his bird, get him to a vet ASAP.
  2. I have my fingers crossed that this one is going to hatch and be just fine, you have a lot of members who will pull for you but then sometimes these things happen for a reason, sometimes nature takes its own choice but good vibes coming your way Renate.
  3. I have no experience with cockatoos but I do know they like to be plastered to you all day, thats why they call them the velcro bird. They tend to be very needy and want to be on you all the time but they are very cuddly birds. Have you checked out the site www.mytoos.com They can make a lot of screeching and pluck themselves if they are not given the attention they feel they need and it is more than for a grey. Maybe some of the members who do have cockatoos will give you some information that will help you.
  4. Josey will do a headshake sometimes but it has nothing to do with saying no, its just something she does occasionally and it usually is several times in succession, maybe she feels like she has a feather out of place on her head and that shake straightens it out, who knows.
  5. Those beaks are very big but they are known as "gentle giants" because they usually have a good disposition at least as compared to other parrots. We had a bird club member who had two of these at least part of the year but she had to give them up because of her poor health, she would bring them to our bird fair so everyone could see them. They do have powerful beaks as they can crack macadamia nut shells and those are very touch, worse than brazil nuts so they have the ability to lop off a finger very easily. Thanks JJ for sharing a pic of one with us.
  6. And I will be checking daily too:whistle:  :woohoo:
  7. I completely understand, my hubby, that is if I can get him to do it, does the brawny part, trying to get him to build some kind of outdoor enclosure but so far no luck.
  8. I can't hear it at work but when I get home this evening I will be sure to check it out.
  9. That is cute and my sun will lay in my hand upside down, now I just wish I could get Josey to do it but she refuses, thanks for sharing some more cute pics of the suns, love them.
  10. The first word is always the sweetest but it won't be the last for sure, the gates are open now and you will be hearing lots more. Thanks for letting us know you have a smart one on your hands but then don't we all.
  11. I know how that goes Natasha, a lot of us are in the same boat but you do what you have to do and check in with us when you get the chance. I would love to see some pics when you can find the time to share them with us.
  12. Emma is one of the most entertaining greys I have seen from the videos I have watched, she is so active and full of herself, I love watching her videos so keep em coming.
  13. Everyone is right, whistling will not keep them from talking, Josey learned the wolf whistle right after I brought her home and she talks and says lots of words and phrases.
  14. Cockatoos are very pretty birds but they are not for me either, I think it takes a special kind of person to keep one of these creatures, I applaud anyone who can share their home with one or more of them.
  15. Koko is a really good flyer to do all that, she just wanted to be with her mom, wish my Josey could do that but she does not have all her flights yet, oh well I can wait.
  16. Thats great to hear Susan, see I told you she would talk and she will mimic the most unusual sounds for you, now quit saying those nasty words so she won't repeat them.
  17. I use the phonebook {Feel-good-0002006E}
  18. You know if I never hear of Chet and birdtricks.com again it will be too soon.
  19. I love those cat's purrs, you have some awesome kitties, thanks for sharing some more pictures of them.
  20. Congrats Ralph on getting an eclectus, I know you will enjoy it immensely, thanks for sharing some pictures of it with us.
  21. That does look nice, how creative you are, I never have any good ideas but I see others make things and then I think, wow I could have made that but I have to see it first, thanks for sharing that with us.
  22. It doesn't look very big but if just used for short periods of time is ok but a pic taken closer up to the cage would help but it looks nice from what I can see.
  23. Hello JJ and welcome to our family, we are so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your new baby grey. I also thought I would never get used to this forum but I did and you will to for if I can then anyone can and you just learn by trying and you are doing just fine so far. I know you are so excited about this first grey, there is nothing like it and you are about to embark on a journey of a lifetime, one you won't be able to forget. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so do read thru them at your leisure and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. Thanks so much for including pictures of your baby, the other bird and dog, looks like they have a good relationship going there but do be ever so careful with a watchful eye.
  24. I am sorry to hear this Howardine but you are right, use that suncreen lavishly, thanks for the reminder.
