  1. Hello again Leora and welcome to our family, we are so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Chivalry. Thats so sweet that Chivalry gets along so well with your dog but be sure to supervise any activity of the two of them together so that nothing bad ever happens, maybe you could share a pic of them doing their smooching for us. Ah yes bowl rattling, a common activity among birds to get our attention and it works too, greys are way too smart for their own good but their intellect is what endears them to us so you take the bad along with the good. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so do read thru them at your leisure and do ask questions you may have, you have already, and we will help you in any way we can. We love pictures here so if you have some of Chivalry you would share with us we would appreciate it very much.
  2. Feed her as much as she will eat, leave her a bowl of pellets in her cage that she can snack on any time she wants, just follow the guidelines about how much and how often she should get the eggs, chicken and cheese as you can give them but so much. Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us some more about you and Chivalry, love that name btw.
  3. If you are really worried you could take her in to see an avian vet to make sure but give her more protein foods for the time being, a little egg, some chicken, a little cheddar cheese, beans, rices and pastas will help put a little weight on her. You really should get a gram scale, you can get one for not too much money but that way you can monitor the weight and see when there is a substantial loss.
  4. You are so right Cindy, we need a picture of Janet so come on and share it with us. :silly:
  5. Hello Leora, how much weight are we talking about here, if it is as much as 10% of her normal weight then it is time to worry? Did she eat when she was in the care of your friend?
  6. Its a good thing there is not a pet store like that near me or I would have more, we have pet stores but none of them specializes in birds but it is fun to be able to go and play with them.
  7. What a little sneak she is but cute at the same time, have you heard of ceiling protectors you can get to put up and you hang the toy or whatever from it and they can't climb up it to get to the ceiling, thanks for sharing that with us.
  8. I would get the small bag, I think it is the pound size for the next size up is five pounds and that is too much for one bird, don't know what that works out for in metric.
  9. Yes it is always better to play it safe, you don't want to run the risk of losing your precious fids. Thanks Char for some very good information.
  10. A lot of the ones who share videos with us put them on photobucket or utube before posting them here, thats what I do for pictures.
  11. Looks good to me Lea, he is a nice handsome looking grey, thanks for sharing a pic even if it is an avatar, hope to see more later. Some are camera shy and some are camera hogs, guess you have a shy one.
  12. Mango has grown into a lovely little bird and quite a character, I love the ones where he is riding on Luke's back, so cute and of course Luke is looking for a handout or anything dropped. Thats great that Mango and Ecko have become good friends, wish my Sunny and Josey would but not gonna happen, thanks Caitlin for sharing these pics with us.
  13. Well I know one member who has dobermans and that is Danmcq and some others but his is the name that comes to mind first. He will be on later to give you his opinion and how he manages them and his grey Dayo.
  14. Thats Caroline to a T, she is a wonderful person and you are so gifted, can't wait to see what you come up with next.
  15. Thats ok, we all get busy with life but you get here when you can, glad to hear Jacko is going for a vet visit and hope he checks out just fine. You need to take him out in his carry cage at other times to show him it is fun to go places and not just to the vet's office or he will not want to have anything to do with it. My Josey will go into her travel cage with no problem because I take her with me to fun places and she knows she is going somewhere if I put her in it. Looking forward to seeing some pictures of Jacko when you get the chance.

    Weening

I still spoon feed Josey her oatmeal in the mornings, she loves it and they do vary on the time they wean, some early and some later, depends on the individual grey. Oh yes greys do feed each other in the wild, thats why it is a sign of affection and love and when your grey regurges for you it means you are truly loved.
  17. Thanks Davey, I think:huh: But you are right about one thing, I do love you all in a special way, thanks for the poem, you are very talented, can't wait to see what you do for Caroline.
  18. Thanks Kenz for sharing another picture of Charlie, he suffers with arthritis and cannot fly and has trouble just perching but he is Sheryl's favorite, he loves her. If you have any more you would want to share with us please do. It is a great place Caitlin and I wished you could have gone with me, any bird lover would have enjoyed the experience immensely. Dan if you ever find yourself in my neck of the country please consider dropping in and we will go visit the place, it would be worth it.
  19. That Koko is not going to let his family go into another part of the house without him trailing along and it is good exercise for him, thanks for sharing that with us.
  20. I am interested Davey, see what you come up for me.
  21. Thats a good point about the coloring of the poops when on some of those colored pellets and to tell you the truth I have never fed Josey any of those colored pellets, she eats the Harrison's High Potency fine so there is no need for the others.
  22. Any of those would be fine for your grey, I don't know about the Higgins but I have used Goldenfeast products and liked them very well, sometimes you just have to try several to see which ones your bird prefers.
  23. Janet I did have a wonderful time and the cages and enclosures were clean and the birds are fed very well. There was a couple who come in every Saturday with fresh organic produce that they chop up and mix with nuts and pellets. All the residents looked in good health and were happy. Caroline it was over a two hour drive for me but with the bird friend that went with me the time passed quickly as we talked about our birds and such. I would go back again in a heartbeat. You are right Pat, we do need more places like these but then we need more people like Matt Smith that devotes his life to the care of these fids and he is doing a wonderful job with it.
  24. Char wrote: Char you could have went the remainder of the way with me, I know you would have loved the experience, I am so glad I went.
  25. Hello Tajee and welcome to our family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you since you didn't tell us anything to start off with. Do you have a grey? If so what is his/her name? How long have you had him/her? How old is said grey? Please tell us some more about you so we can get to know you a little better.
