  1. I'm sorry to say that my grey does those "other bodily function noises" also, they do mimic what they hear but she is a hoot to listen to.
  2. I can undertand that being in a pet store it was probably safer to have him clipped but hopefully the flights will be replaced soon and he will once again gain flight ability, it does make for a more confident grey to leave them unclipped.
  3. I can't quite tell what she is saying but I think I heard a burp there after the first few phrases, sounds like a male voice she is using and you did find a way to post just audio, good going and thanks for sharing it with us.
  4. I would give him an aloe vera juice bath making sure to get under the wings and you can also put some aloe vera jel on his armpit if it is irritating him, the jel is safe even if he eats some of it, it may sooth it since that detergent is irritating him.
  5. I would put down some blankets or something soft for her to land on when she does this, are you going to allow her wings to grow out or are you keeping them clipped? It sounds like she is wanting to take flight but being clipped she drops so her landings need to be on something padded or she can hurt her keel bone. As far as that scraping her food bowl that sounds like what I call chicken scratching and yes it is an attempt to get back out of her cage but when you put her in for the night just ignore it, all greys do this behavior at times, just like little children they want their own way and we know best.
  6. Is she the only bird you have right now? Most of us can't stop with one bird, I have 3 birds, my grey, a sun conure and a cockatiel, I purchased the grey and the conure but the tiel just dropped into my backyard last summer and I kept her after I failed to find her owner. I love those shots where she is cuddling up to you, so precious and you better enjoy them while they last for they tend to be less cuddly as they get older.
  7. It kind of sounds like he already has captured your heartstrings and you will be adopting him but it seems he is happy from the way you talk of him, I say keep him.
  8. I am so glad it turned out to be nothing but it is a good idea to keep a closer watch for a few days just in case, like me I am sort of a worrywart.
  9. He is going to be one good looking tiel.
  10. Hello Hannah and welcome to our family, so glad you could join us. Greys have a way of capturing our hearts and even though macaws are majestic creatures I think you will be glad you chose a grey over a macaw, they are very quiet in comparison. That is a lovely picture in your avatar and if you have some more of her you would share with us we would love to see them.
  11. Most of our fids love to get ahold of remotes and you have found a clever way to offer treats. I have always encouraged new members to browse the baby aisle of stores for good toys for our greys or fids, they usually come in pretty colors and are practically indestructable, thanks for the suggestions.
  12. You should get a too only if you really want one and not to be just company for Ollie, toos are very demanding birds and loud, if you just want another bird around then get a tiel or some other small bird. I used to think I wanted a too, a rosebreasted to be exact until I found out more about them, I already have one bird who is stuck to me like glue, my sun conure so I admire others who have them but they are not for me, I will remain too less.
  13. Aristotle might be more of a closet talker so he chats more when no one is around, some greys are like that so sometimes you have to sneak up when they are chatting to listen to what they say but he looks like he has settled into his new home and you two are delighted with one another, I am so glad he is happy and doing fine. Thanks for sharing those pictures with us, just can't get enough.
  14. A bird does not have to be doing something all hours of the day to be happy, sometimes they just want to chill out sitting and observing their environment and if he is happy just sitting on his cage then let him be. You have only had him for 3 weeks and he may not have bonded to you yet where he wants to be with you more, all greys are individuals and some want lots of attention and being with their owners and others like being to themselves more of the time so don't worry that he is not happy or bored if he isn't playing or climbing around all the time. Besides if you wanted a bird that would stay on you all the time you would have gotten a too.
  15. I have never fed my grey tuna fish but know some here that do, I do feed some egg and chicken occasionally. I usually hard boil an egg and offer some but others do scramble it, just don't use any fat or salt in it and the chicken should be baked not fried, Josey had some chicken last night, they can also have a chicken bone, preferably a leg with or without a little meat on it, most love to crack it open and eat the marrow inside, its good for them too. Yes it does seem to be strange to give them chicken as they are a feathered animal but remember they eat the yolk of an egg when they are incubated in their shell so its not that unnatural.

When you had him clipped and took away his ability to fly he was upset and mad at you for taking away his flight privileges but he should get over it soon and probably has by now. I take it you have young sons who are in and out the door a lot and you are afraid he will escape but there are other options to try to keep him from escaping out an open door other than clipping his wings and we have some threads here that offer such suggestions.
  17. I think someone else asked that same question a good while back but no one knew then either so if you have something you want us to hear just post the video, just use a blank screen.
  18. My conure does the same, she starts screaming when she hears my vehicle pull up and its like hurry up and let me out so I can continue to tear up my t-shirts. Congrats on your new job and you will work out something that will work for all of you, yes they have some adjusting to do since you have been at home with them all day but they will survive and it will make the time you do spend with them that much more precious and special. Its best not to have your birds into such a rigid routine that anything different upsets them so it will be a learning experience for you and your fids. I assume you have all the bird's cages in one room so they will be company for each other while you are gone at work, be sure to leave them toys and especially foraging type ones so they are kept busy and leave a tv or radio on for background noise and they will be fine.
  19. Well it looks like the decision is made and Shyloh is coming to live with you, you have taken on quite a responsibility but you seem to have a support system with your breeder and several friends that if you really want to make this work you can, it won't be easy at times but well worth it if you understand you have two different birds that need both your time and attention. Congrats on giving Shyloh a new forever home and sharing a pic of her with us, she sounds like a real sweetheart but there could be some bumpy roads ahead so be prepared for things to not go so swimmingly in the next few weeks and months as this one adjusts to a new home and your new baby comes home.
  20. Hello Markus and welcome to our family, you are doing the right thing to read and find out all you can about living with a grey to make sure you are a good fit with owning one. Many of the members here including me work full time and have a grey and I also have 2 other birds but I find time to spend with my fids in the evening and weekends. They get used to being by themselves during the day, as long as you have some toys in their cage to keep them busy and leave either the tv or radio on for background noise they do fine while you are gone. My hubby is the first one home after work but he doesn't let them out for I do that when I get home. They can adjust to a work week of evening hours also, just have them out during the day and when you get home from work just quietly go about your usual business without disturbing your grey's sleep. I work day hours but occasionally we are out an evening that I know we will be late getting home, I usually cover my fids cages at night but if we are going out before it gets dark we leave them uncovered and when it gets dark they go to sleep and when we get in we don't disturb them for their cages are in the family room. They are not so rigid that things have to be done on a schedule so if you really want a grey then he/she can adapt. Also I think it is helpful to have more than one bird as most of us have and when we are not at home the birds are company for each other, they each have their own cage but they may chatter back and forth with one another, something you might want to consider, it doesn't have to be a needy type bird just a bird, I have a sun conure and a cockatiel.
  21. Like Dan and Penny have said keep an eye on Tule especially if it happens again for usually regurtating is just bringing up food in the crop but that should not be watery, don't hesitate to give your avian vet a call if you have any doubts and keep us informed.
  22. Dayo sure does a lot of talking to the meatloaf, must be a fairly often item on the dinner menu, thanks for sharing Dan.
  23. Hello Sue and welcome to our family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing a lot more about you and Rosa Parks. I love your introduction and about your lifestyle well whatever works. Thats great that she accompanies you on your walks with the dogs, she gets to spend some time in the outdoors with some fresh air and being with you is the best part. Thanks for sharing a pic of Rosa with us and if you have more you would share with us don't hesitate to add them.
  24. She is a cutie and even though she is just sitting there I can see her mind working, this girl is gonna be trouble but in a good way.
  25. Now you got me curious too, please keep us updated on whether you accomplish this or not, Wow!
