This is me and my cat Littleboy:

I'm around my bird, Buzz, all day everyday. During that time I leave the top of his cage open so that he is free to do what he likes. I have placed his cage close to the lounge room, centrally located, so that he can always see me as I go about my daily chores. He loves alot of attention and where he is I am able to talk to him constantly and teach him new words. If it happens that I do have to go away for the whole day I will always leave the TV on for him so that he has something to listen too as well as to play with his toys in the cage.

We do not cover our Timneh, Buzz, at night because it upsets him especially if he knows that we are still up and that he might be missing out on something real good. My hubby and I usually go to bed at 11 or 12 but before then we will turn all the lights off in the house and just be watching TV. Thus Buzz gets a little light from it but still can sleep if he wants....usually he sleeps. In the morning we do not hear a peep out of him until we are both out of bed. He's a good boy

Hi my name is Karen and I am new to the forums here as well as to African Greys. My husband and I are going to look at a 7 year old female Timneh African Grey Parrot tomorrow after we saw it advertised in our local newspaper. It is 600 dollars and comes with its own very large cage plus accessories. We spoke to the lady who owns it tonight and apparently the bird is in very good health (she sent us pics as well to confirm this) and has a good vocabulary. She is selling it because her family is to busy to spend time with it. The only real drawback is that she said that the bird is very protective of its cage especially when it is sitting outside on top of it. Once the bird gets away from the cage she is fine and loving. Is it possible at the age the bird is to break this protective behaviour?
