Just wanted to let everyone know that Im so happy with Charlie....he is finally letting me hold him and we play...he dances on my hand and doesn't even try to bite me anymore....he for a long time would never let me hold him only my husband could do something with him...but since my husband has went over the road truck driving he has really warmed up too me....Im not scared of him any more and I think he trust's me now that he knows that Im not going to do anything to him...right now Im trying to teach him his colors...but, I am just excited that my bird loves me again:)

thanks everyone for the great welcome
-
Judy, thank you for your warm welcome....I hope to get some pictures online of charlie...he is such a joy the whole family just loves him....I think the reason he does alot of his stuff is that he is very young and loves to hear us laugh at him...
-
Hello everyone Im kinda new at this I have posted some things on here about my grey Charlie.. But just to let you know alittle about me. Charlie and I are from alabama. Charlie is a Congo African Grey and he is 2 1/2 years old...still trying to understand some of the things he does....but, a very smart bird and I love him very much....I just went and had lunch at the house with him and he was so excited....lol:)
-
Well, I have just come to realize Charlie is just going to be a food thrower...He is a good bird overall but he does have his moments I guess just like we do...He is very spoiled...I buy him toys all the time Im coming home with something new and challenging for him because he is young but this weekend Im definitely taking the cuckcoo clock down too see if he will come out of his cage because he was sitting on his door all day...now he want come out at all...I think he thinks that is another bird in the house when the clock goes off:ohmy:
-
Let me ask this because I have only had charlie will be a year next month....he is 2 1/2 years old...do they get bored with the same food....do I need to change it up for him....I have him on avian looks like fruit loops...lol...and I put two scoops of congo grey seeds and sometimes I will add snow peas or green beans (raw) for a treat and peanuts....he is so not into any type of fruit only grapes hates everything else...
-
Well, Charlie is still throwing his food even though I have started ignoring him....Im wondering if I need to change is diet and give me some tips on what to try next....vacuum cleaner is really getting a work out..lol...Charlie has learned a new thing though he is dancing....I try to praise him and talk sweet but its not working either....he doesn't come out of his cage much anymore and we can't figure that out unless its the cuckoo clock next to him and he is afraid of it...should I move the clock its an antique and I just got it....any advice
-
Well at first I was yelling at him saying NO but here lately I have been ignoring him and he is still doing it....
-
Help!!!!for the past two days my bird Charlie has been throwing his food like crazy...I don't know what to do...I feed him Avian Food that looks like fruit loops and seeds for greys...He has throwed food in the past but not this bad....any suggestions::ohmy:
-
thank you for all the responses....if he continues to keep it up more than usual...I will definitely take him to his vet and get him checked out...thank you all

I have a question....I have noticed that my gray Charlie shakes his head alot, is that common in birds...
-
Well on the step up command someone suggested me using a stick...wellll,Charlie is scared to death of that stick he flys all over the place or trys too...so Im afraid he may hurt himself because his wings are clipped and he can fly very well....I have only had Charlie for 6 months now and I don't know if someone before me was mean to him with a stick or intimidated him with one but I have to actually hide the thing to come him down....my question mainly is how do I get Charlie to trust me...I bought him for myself but he tends to lean toward my husband which I don't like my husband can walk up to his cage and he will hike his leg for him to take him...but he will only let me get him only own his terms...I have tried to be stern with him but its not helping he is a very intelligent bird to be just alittle over a year old and is a good bird but I think he has picked my husband over me...any suggestions;)

This thread discusses the Content article: My new cage! Where did you find the cage and are they pricy

JUST NOTICED THAT SOMEONE IN MY HOMETOWN HAS A GREY AND A LARGE CAGE FOR SALE 800 THAT IS CHEAP SAID HE WAS 1 AND COULD TALK...WISHED I COULD BUY HIM BUT CHARLIE IS ALL I CAN HANDLE....
-
that is a good command but there is one problem with charlie you do that to him and he bites. I just too scared to put my hand up there because it hurts when he bites
-
I have a grey named Charlie and sometimes I feed him snow peas is that ok and ever now in then a french fry...also, what is better for their water a bowel that comes with the cage or should I get a drinking bottle you hang on his cage...it seems like Im always changing that water out everyday because he dips his food in it..the fruity food made by avian kinda looks like fruit loops

I feed charlie raw snow peas are those ok -
well I have him in the kitchen because that is the only area that doesn't have carpet....because normally when he is sitting outside on his door he poops in the floor...so that is the reason why I have him in the kitchen where he can see everything around him
-
yeah I take the towel off and he seems to be fine...I just think its a territorial thing that he is going through...He has alot of toys and a huge cage so I know he isnt bored....maybe spoiled...he has the best and I talk to him but he is young and he is only whistling right now and can only say hello I have tried other things on talking but its not happening right now but I know in time he will...
-
thank you everyone for your comments on helping me on what to do with charlie and his behavior probleming...I will start working on that this afternoon and maybe things will work out for us.... I know he knows that Im scared because I do pull away when he tries to peck because he has brought blood...he means business when he bites, but I do think he is dominate over his home (cage) because he is only like that around the cage area and not when I get him off the cage...the only thing I have figured out to do so far is to wrap my arm with a towel and he will step up with no problem but if I don't have a towel around my arm he pecks or tries too
-
yes I sit in front of his cage and talk to him and play with him with his toys when he will let me stick my arm in there...thank you for welcoming me and charlie to the forum....Im just afraid I will stress him if I keep on with him....

I just got my grey about 2 months ago....at first he was a good bird and is a good bird overall...but for some reason he has gotten in this defense mood that when you try to come get him off his cage or talk to him he bends down like he is in defense mode and trys to bite...sometimes he will even hang upside down by one leg which is kinda funny and screams like a woman while biting himself...Im thinking its because Im not paying enough attention....I have carried him to the vet and he is been given a clean bill of health...the vet told me they were known to throw temper tantrums but he hasn't gotten any better...I love my bird and would love to show him affection but he will only let me pick him up on his terms...any suggestions!!!!!
