hiya i do 10-15 mins training with my grey i gradually want to teach him to allow me to touch all over and even lift his wings so i can get to the point of harness training him probs take a good year or so.
at the moment ive been working and him allowing his head touched stroked and him learning something more fine like wave so he doesnt get to bored always repeating the same step.
any way the issue with the head scratch im getting is he seems to move his head low down (he did this before when he didnt like it and would attempt to bite) and is holding his feathers tight any ideas why? first couple days they wasnt as tight tips would be welcome
and also whats the step after the head?
long story short im moving house from a full house to a bedroom and cant have my grey in there in his cage ive got asthma he will be in the living room and i will have a java play stand which i purchased for him so i can have him up there with me as much as possible so i need to get him use to it at current he finds my pc monitor a preferred perch which leaves him pooping on it and sometimes attempting to bite it which obviously isnt ideal but he loves it (was very tempted to convert it by adding a perch on top with a poop catcher but any way ive got the java perch in my room along with that pc monitor just to get him in to practice and so far i can get him on the java perch but as soon as i move back to the pc he flies straight onto the monitor have you got any tips for me please? p.s i have no intention of clipping his wings he was clipped a few times when i first had him and its taken him years to start flying again and i love his wings
Todsy I come home I notice on one of his wings that feathers are slightly ruffled and when I fed him I noticed heavy breathing and he was eating a monkey nut and his foot was shaking any advice thank you first time I've noticed this so will be keeping an eye on his behaviour.
why you all acting as if it was my idea to clip the wings. i dont agree with wing clipping i admit ive clipped his wings twice when i first got him and my other birds but that was years ago. since then ive learnt more. the best route is patience.
that would be hard to do atm as the room he is in hasnt got enough space for it for a while untill my brother moves his computer. plus i got the playstand so he can spend time with me in the front room and not the dining room
he is use to me and has been for the 3 years out of the 5 ive had him. from what i can tell he likes the soft sweetcorn that yyou get from the tin. so might try that. but he really is scared of the play stand.
he gets that seed for his dinner everyday so wont be much of a treat for him tbh. i do get him the food with more fruits n stuff in but my dad mixes it with the cheaper food. which really annoys mean because demon needs a healthier diet. he does get fresh fruit n veg aswell.
i do understand my grey.
any other tips on getting him on there
ive finally got a playstand for my grey but he freaks out when i try and get him on it. how can i teach him its ok to go on it?
he doesnt have a favourite treat. issnt tame just semi he has already tried biting me several times not to draw blood though. and when he landed on a towel he wouldnt step up and instead of biting me he decided to chew the towel but as i kept saying step up and got closer to him he decided to do a lil nip the went for the towel again
help
i have been unable to find pellets around my area.
thanksfully he has never been ill since ive had him.
im in the process of making him a play stand so he can be with me more often and not making a mess on the floor.
its his diet he does get fruit every couple days thats why im trying to find something healthier to give him.
so u think if i got a packet of those dried fruits to give that to him everyday with little seed
you know the cereal muesli it has blend of raisins, sultanas, banana, apricot, dates, papaya and pinapple with wheat flakes, oat flakes and barley flakes and other things. just so i can give him something for the morning instead of the normal seed diet he gets. or can you suggest any cereals?
why a parrot would scratch the same spot you stroke him at because my CAG does that every time i stroke/ scratch his head and he been like that since ive had him could there be something up? or?
thanks
