  1. Anyone else collect their parrot's molted feathers, but didn't know what to do with them? I have an answer for you: create a feather bouquet! Mind you, these are not my greys' feathers, but you can definitely do it with theirs.
  2. OMG! Poor chickens. You have quite the farm thing going on. There's nothing like freshly laid eggs!
  3. He's very handsome, feet and all! Love his messy beak, too! How many chickens, etc do you have grazing outside?
  4. Yeah, Sydney's feathers were a dull lifeless mess when we rescued him. Probably hadn't felt water on his feathers for at least 8 years, if not longer. The first thing we did besides feed him a good meal was to completely mist him down. I think I missed what's up with Huey's feet. Does he pick at them?
  5. Thank you! Sydney has come a long way since we rescued him. Just look at this 'before' picture taken immediately after we rescued him. Was all skin and bones.
  6. Here's a picture of our Sydney. ❤️
  7. Sydney? He's doing really well! The only issue that I'm having is whenever I enter the room or interact with him, he immediately turns into a little horn dog, snorting and everything. But he's happy and has really come out of his shell.
  8. Here are a few recent pics of Flynn. He flies around the aviary as if he owns the world! Very confident grey, and quite similar to Maalik in personality. Not sure if he's from the same parents as Maalik, but it's very possible.
  9. Does he do anything else, such as lower his wings or make regurg motions?
  10. No varnish is safe for parrots. You can always vet wrap the area upon which your parrot will be standing.
  11. We're just glad that everything's good within your world! Glad you're back! 🙂
  12. Fynn is having lots of fun as are we! My daughter had him out this afternoon and he kept flying into my office to see what I was up to. I'd return him to my daughter, but in a flash he was right back for another little visit! He's a fantastic little eater. Today he had broccoli, carrots, yams, English peas, baby chard greens, sugar snap peas, corn, a sprinkling of raw hemp seeds and ancient grains, microgreens, my home made birdie bread, banana, grape, and blueberries. He tried everything and ate most of his lunch. Little crop has a nice bulge to it, too! Elvenking is right. His innocence pulls you in deeply. Wish he could stay that way. Haha! Well, we'll savor every single precious little baby moment while it lasts. I've ordered an avatar harness for him. Going to see if we can acclimate him to wearing it so that he could take walks with us. Our other birds were too old when we'd introduced it to them. It was a definite no go.
  13. His feet are actually ginormous. Bigger than my other 2 CAG's feet, that's for sure. They're like little CAG clown feet!
  14. Today we welcome Fynn into our hearts and home! Fynn (formerly Casper) is a gentle little sweetheart. Confident, curious and so darn adorable in every way! While my heart is filled with sadness, knowing his first owner gave it his all to make things work, and whose heart is now broken having to rehome him, we are both focused on moving forward. My door will always be open to him for visitation rights! I'm absolutely amazed at how quickly little babies can become acclimated to new surroundings. He's already met all the birdies, has flown laps around our bird room and outdoor aviary, munched down on a healthy bowl of chop, shredded a few toys, and has already wiggled himself into our hearts. Welcome to your new home, Fynn!
  15. That's awesome! Wish I was more resourceful and could do stuff like that for my fids. The 3 bell swing is Maalik's absolute favorite toy. He'll grab onto the bars of the cage, pull and then let go to get the best ride that he can! Our new baby, Fynn, has one, too, and already seems to enjoy it!
  16. I've owned 8 of these cages. The down side is that the darn wheels break off over time, and they don't make replacement casters for them. These are push on casters; not the screw in kind. Two of my cages are now on furniture coasters because all their wheels have snapped off. I've since replaced 4 of them with A&E and Hendrix Preview cages. What I do like about these cages is that they are very roomy for the low price.
  17. Teak turned 4 in April. Never had her DNA'd, but I've always leaned towards it being a 'she' simply because a Jardine's breeder said she could tell from the shape of a Jardine's head as to whether it was a boy or girl. Teak is my one and only bird. She'll quietly sit for hours on my shoulder. Unfortunately she had been clipped before fledge, so now she'll only fly when extremely startled.
  18. My birds' names? Teak and Walter, Jardine's and BHC
  19. Teak wants to welcome you, Casper, and to let you know that there's plenty of room to play! And even bathe!
  20. Elvenking, I know how unbelievably difficult a decision this is for you. We've shared many joyful stories about our greys along with those that presented certain challenges. My heart aches for you knowing that although you've given it your very best, that you weren't able to find harmony. I am honored that you have placed your trust in me and are willing to share his little life with my family. There's a whole lot of activity going on around here each and every day! He'll have our giant aviary to soar around in and will have time to meet and great his new fid family. Maalik loves other birds , so I'm predicting that he and Casper will become the best of friends in time!
  21. Oh yes! Two is the famous 'terrible two's' stage for greys. Mine went through it for 6-9 months before he grew out of it. He was testing his boundaries, just like toddlers do! I believe that Dave posted behavioral stages of greys somewhere in the forum. I found his words of wisdom invaluable when my was younger.
  22. Thanks Steve. Sydney seems to have raging hormones, too, but at least he doesn't barber himself...yet. Guess I'll continue doing what works. Still working on his out of cage time. Have to set aside a good chunk of time each day in order to work slowly and patiently with him. With 12 fids, it's becoming very difficult to find the time. If I think I'll be rushed, then I don't bring him out. Don't want to do the 2 steps forward; 1 step backward dance. Getting him back into his cage slowly and without much stress has been my challenge thus far. I'm extremely surprised that people actually dope their birds up in order to manage their amorous behaviors. But I guess that if the barbering behavior becomes health threatening it becomes an option, albeit the last option I'd actually consider. Glad to hear that he's now clean and doing great!
