Mahi - 6 months old African Grey - lovely treat :)
Danny Kwok replied to crazyinstinct's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Hi, sorry for late reply. I was busy lately with all the festive season stuff. It's very normal when she felt sleepy whenever you talk to her. That is the best time for her to recognize your voice and make her familiar with your presence. Do speak something you want her to learn or say next time. Example "sweet sweet love" which I used to say when I just got Angel back. Whenever I said this words, it's like bedtime 'story', his eyes will slowly close. Now, whenever he sees me, he will either say "Hello" or "Sweet". He still cannot say the whole sentence. Be patient as your Grey is not hand tamed. Maybe you can look at it as a companion, someone that you love but still not ready to love you back. I know it sounds silly, but just make a way so that you will not give up on her. Cheers! -

Hi, welcome to you and Mahi. I am concern more on you as caring for a Grey like Mahi is not easy. Do not put too much tension on yourself. Grey will adapt to the situation around him. But nevertheless you got to provide the necessity he needs. Try to talk to him more often and show him you hand… let him familiarize to your hand. Remember only allow him to step up to your hand when taking him out of the cage. Do not grab his body as this is a sign of enemy catching the prey. Don't worry if on the matter on whether he will go back to his cage after taking him out. Grey likes to be outside of the cage. Grey adapts to routine lifestyle. Example if you bring him out at 7am and put him back at 7pm and after 1 month, he will automatically do that on his own. MKParrot was right, if he is hand-fed, he should not be afraid of hand. Only thing that makes him afraid is he is not hand-fed or he is being abused when was young. Be patient and you will be rewarded. I have a 7 month Grey now and his name is Angel. I got him back at 3 months old when he was half weaned but able to stand on a perch and find his food. I begin with talking to him for 5 minutes. It was weird with no respond. But I could feel that he is pacify whenever I talk to him bcoz he will slowly fall asleep. Now he is so active and so talkative with "Donald Duck" voice all the time…. that could be my reward…. hahaha. -
Hi, Sorry for late reply for thanking everyone for your suggestions and advice. My grey, Angel is very fine now. In fact he is so noisy with funny noise and active during day time. I am glad that he is healthy. Only things that bother me is he really needs attention most of the time. He likes to climb on my shoulder and just stand there. I heard that Grey can be very quiet and will just stare on. How come mine is so "active" ? Are most Grey below 1 years old acted in this way?

Thanks for all the advice and replies. I notice the sound has gone. I have observed these few nites and there were generally soundless. I don't want to stay too long to observe as I want him to sleep well. Just about 10 minutes near his cage at nite. I suspect he is too tired as he is really active during the day time, especially when he see some human presence. Perhaps I just scaring myself. Seeing him growing day by day and learning something new is really interesting.

Thanks for all the advice. I will observe closely on that in these few nites.

Hi, I have a lovely CAG which is 5 months old now. He is incredibly talkative and very clinging whenever he sees me around. He seems healthy all these while after I got him back 3 months ago from a pet shop. Recently, I notice that he makes soft whistling sound while asleep. I wonder is there anyone here with the same experience with their CAG? Need advice before bringing him to the vet. Thanks.

Thanks to the advice. I will keep an eye on corners and make sure everything is safe for my grey here.

Yes... a very short snake. That morning I woke up and saw there was this little creature on the floor at the corner right where I used to put the pay stand for my grey. I never notice that and wonder how come there was something there when I had just cleaned the place last night. When I took a closer look, OMG, it was a baby snake. I used to put my grey outside as he loves to see sky and other birds. Somemore it's easier for me to clean up the place, as you know they do make a mess most of the time. I am planning to put sulphur around the area to avoid snake appear again. I am wondering is it ok to place near the grey? Will it be as poison as teflon?

I notice there is a baby snake around the corner this morning. I wonder does parrot attract this cold-blooded crawling creature? Last time, I had a Sun Conure and there was a baby snake too at the garden. I am planning to put some sulphur around the corner, and obviously not at the grey playstand or cage. Is it ok to do so? Any advice?

How to differentiate preening and feather plucking?
Danny Kwok replied to Danny Kwok's topic in Health Room
It has been weeks after this post. I notice that you guys are correct. He is now so noisy... talkative with no meaning sounds.... like Donald Duck! hahaha. He has less scratching around his body. I give him a mist shower once a week. Weather here is hot and humid, sometimes I give him twice a week when I saw him trying to flap around the drinking pot. How many times should a 4 months grey take bath / shower? -
Can African Greys take peppermint leafs?
Danny Kwok replied to Danny Kwok's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Thanks for all the advice. Angel seems to eat whatever I give him. He likes sweet corn and broccoli. He seems to play around with food more than eating them. Sometimes I saw him chew on them and let go, as though just to entertain me by showing he is eating. I wonder will grey really eat them even they swing the food around after chewing them? Anyone have same experience before here? -
How to differentiate preening and feather plucking?
Danny Kwok replied to Danny Kwok's topic in Health Room
Hi, thanks for the all the answer and I feel better now. I have to whistle to get his attention whenever I see him scratching his chest or wings... just to avoid him to scratch until the feathers down... haha. Btw, is it normal to have feathers drop down. I mean is it like we human will have hair fall, they too will have feather down? I see about 5-6 feather, erhmm... soft feathers on the floor everyday I sweep or clean the room. Please advice. Thanks. -
Hi, I have a 4 months old CAG. I have provided the attention needed as possible. I am new to Grey but have a sun conure before. I heard many news on Grey feather plucking and it's really not a good news. I saw my Grey - Angel, used to clean his feather, sometimes scratching under its wing and on the chest. I wonder is this going to be the beginning of feather plucking? or is it just cleaning/ preening? Please help. Thanks.

Hi, my home-grown chillies are small type... So I guess the striking red will make him eat them - hopefully. His name is Angel. -
