  1. i've been keeping an eye on the bald patch on her leg and i've noticed now that the patch has gotten much larger. There's also another bald patch on her other leg.. here's some pictures i took just now. I've seen her physically pull out about 4 feathers from her leg..
  2. Since I moved back home, my boyfriend hasn't been able to spend any quality time with Ruby so the times he's been around her in the past 3 months and has tried to give her a head rub, she has attacked him. Even when he has been minding his own business on his laptop. She has climbed down off my shoulder and has purposely run over to him, fluffed up, with beak wide open. Just yesterday she was on my arm and I got close to him to show him something on my phone. She immediately jumped from my shoulder to his arm, climbed up his shirt and perched herself on his shoulder. I immediately freaked thinking she was going to attack him. Instead, she sat there very calmly. I took her off since he was unsure of whether to have her step up onto his arm. Afterwards, she was on her travel cage and she flew to the bed and made her way up my shirt and climbed onto my boyfriend’s stomach. Once again, she perched and I asked him if he could go ahead and see if she would let him touch her head. She did, and she proceeded to twist her little head around and close her eyes, nibbling on him occasionally. She sat there the rest of the movie and continued to snuggle with her. Up until now, she has never allowed him to get this close. She wouldn’t even take her favorite treats from his hand. I’m guessing the fact that he gave up trying to get her attention got to her? I’m so happy she’s starting to accept him again.
  3. Greycie's reaction is just priceless. I laughed so hard. Thanks for this! It was so cute!!
  4. haha. my vet told me the same thing when i took her in for a check up in January. I freak out over the smallest thing. She's not a biter so applying the gel will not be hard to do. Thank you again
  5. thank you everyone! she mumbles a lot and she has woken me up at 7 in the morning yelling hello at the top of her little lungs but i haven't been able to distinguish anything else. she blows kisses and whines like my dog and has even put together a little tune but nothing else.
  6. thank you so much Dave. I thought about purchasing the gel as well but wanted some information from you guys first. I also had a chance to take the pictures of the area so you guys can see. I feel more reassured now. I'll get some gel later on today.
  7. Just January she took a trip to the vet and everything was perfect. And I have a feeling it's her first molt but I am horrified by the bald spot on her leg.. I sprayed her earlier today with some aloe Vera and I've been keeping a close eye on her. I haven't seen her pluck any feathers out. Hopefully it is just a molt.
  8. I bought a new lens recently and wanted to share with you all some really cute pictures I took of my beautiful girl. I can't believe she's almost 9 months already! Time flies by so fast!
  9. Hello everyone! Just today I noticed that my Ruby has a bald spot on one of her legs. I haven't seen her plucking her feathers at all but I am very nervous that she might be. She has been losing alot of down feathers in the last week or two. The whole bottom of her cage is full of them. I am unsure of what to think of this. She has not lost any of her large feathers except two tail feathers weeks apart from one another. As of right now, it is the only noticeable bald spot I see and it does not look raw or irritated. I am a complete wreck.
  10. Ahhh he's too cute!! I just saw the pictures. I remember when I first brought Ruby home. They grow up so fast Jade, my mutt is the same way with my Ruby. She has really big ears so Ruby recently has made it a habit of biting her ears and Jade doesn't know what to make of this. Take lots of pictures!!
  11. I have lovebirds and they aren't as loud as some of you think. Maybe it's because I've had them my whole life and the sound that they do make, I'm used to it? Idk what it could be. I have mostly Lutino and 1 regular peach face that I would take everywhere with me. They really are funny little birds. The ones I have like to snuggle in my shirt. They aren't so fond of Ruby, my african grey. She gets along with the peach face though.
  12. I just thought she was doing it as a way to get me to take her out of her cage because she doesn't do it when she's alone.
  13. I also figured that it's something that they do instinctively but was unsure. Thank you
  14. My Ruby turned 3 months old today. I've noticed that since I moved her to her cage, she constantly scratches the bottom of the cage when she sees the lights on in the living room or when she hears the key in the door. She's constantly out when I'm home but the tines that I have to go to school or work, I only take her out momentarily to feed her. I speak to her softly and assure her that I'll let her out the moment I get home but as soon as I put her back in her cage, she hurries to the bottom of the cage and scratches. When I open the door to her cage, she stops and runs to the door and gets on my hand. I'm not sure what to think of this. I don't know if she has separation anxiety or if she has associated the scratching at the bottom of her cage with me letting her out. I mostly ignore the behavior and when I leave the room, she stops and try to only let her out once she has stopped the scratching. I'm I doing something wrong? The scratching goes on for about 5 mins and she eventually gives up and goes back to playing with her toys. What should I do?
  15. Thank you all so much. Oh trust me. I'm constantly snapping pictures of her. She's changed so much since I first got her
  16. Thank you so much I had been trying to join for a while now and I couldn't register. I tried earlier today and was finally able to register successfully
  17. I'm a new owner of a baby African Grey, born June 1st. Her name is Ruby, and she fits right in with my adopted dog Jade. She already whistles, and steps up and down on my hand. She loves mango, kiwi, strawberries, broccoli and a few other fruits and veggies that I've introduced to her so far. She goes everywhere with me and is extremely friendly since I'm making it a habit of socializing her a lot as she's still young. She's not the first African Grey in my family though. My aunt's much older African Grey recently passed away a little over two weeks ago. I really hope you enjoy these cute pictures I've taken of her
