  1. Mine likes to guilt trip...Every morning I let Errol out of her cage, give kisses and cuddles, and then I'll have to go to work, so I'll slip her in between the covers of my bed (husbands still in bed) she'll snuggle all comfy under the sheets, then I'll see a little beak poke out, then her head, and she'll make this happy little excited gurgle noise, then pop her head back in..she'll do this 3 or 4 times, then she'll just put her head out and look at me, pop it back in, and then go cuddle with my husband. I swear she's tring to get me to crawl back in bed and call in to work. "Uh sorry boss, can't come in today I have a case of lonely parrot!" I love that little cuddle bug sooooo much.
  2. Teflon (according to Avian vet's and DuPont) emit's a fume off itselt at 500 degrees that's know to instantly kill birds, and eventually CAN cause cancer in humans.. Teflon is used in stoves (Do not use self clean function)and DuPont is releasing a line of "shatterproof" light bulbs that are coated in the stuff. . . here is a list of some products that Use Polytetraflouethylene (Teflon) Heat lamps Portable heaters Sole plates on irons Ironing board covers Burners on stove tops Drip pans for burners Broiler pans Griddles Many cooking utensils Woks Waffle makers Electric skillets Deep fryers, crock pots, Hot air popcorn poppers Coffee makers Bread makers Non-stick rolling pins Lollipop molds Corkscrews Never-Stick-Stainless Steel Stockpots Roasters Non-stick gingerbread molds Pizza pans Tortilla presses Post edited by: Errols_Mom, at: 2007/05/17 20:32<br><br>Post edited by: Errols_Mom, at: 2007/05/17 20:37
  3. Errol does her best Macaw and Hawkhead impressions in the morning, then after thats all done she begins her practicing I can her her saying "ARROW!" over and over again. I can tell she's trying to pronounce Errol. But it's adorable, then after that, I usually will hear any new sounds she's taken up as in the morning she will practice them. In the evening we get a lot of "Arrows" Hi's and grumble grumble grumbles.... I think she's trying to show off what she's been practicing in the morning

  5. I give my Errol it raw, bbq'd steamed, and boiled... I chunk it up, give it to her whole, I cut it in wheels, and I've taken the husk and rolled it in a thin coat of home-made (no sugar) peanut butter, and rolled that in seeds, and froze it for a warm summer treat...she LOVES Corn!!!
  6. It's getting better. She's figured out that MOM Decides to get her off the perch, she rarely fly's over to me anymore...the most she'll do is put up a foot and kind of wave like she's trying to stand on an invisible finger.
  7. okay. Update time..I took a little of everyone's advise, now, we've compramised, we have cuddle time every night for about an hour. She either climbs into my shirt (Yes it looks funny with a tail sticking out of the collar of my shit, i'll post pics soon) or I put a light hand towel over her, and sing...Anytime she fly's over to me (If its TOO early, she get's put back on her playgym) if it's anytime after 8pm she get's the towel, cuddle time and then it's off to bedtime...she's getting better.
  8. Teflon (Admitted by the company that produces the teflon coating) emit's an oder that will kill birds and can also harm humans but the coating will only emit the fumes when it reaches 500 degrees, so normal cooking I'd just keep your overhead vent on, and it should be fine for your birdies...however, the real problem comes when people who have teflon lined oven's run the self-cleaning cycle, or leave water boiling on the stove, and the water evaporates, and the pan just get's hotter and hotter.... If a new cooking set is out of the question, just make sure you keep it under 500 degrees
  9. Living room, with it's play gym.....
  10. No kidding... I wish I could take the relationship down a knotch....But thanks for the help! :woohoo:
  11. She has a cage with a playtop (http://www.elitebirdhomes.com/medium.html) It's the bottom one, it's got toys and treats on the bottom, on the top, she has her own TV and radio, I can't walk past it without her making a flying leap for my body...
  12. Ok, Not that I'm complaining TOOO much..but... I just took home my 4mo old CAG, and she's going through (what I assume) is an abandoment issue...She can't stay on her cage/playgym...she has to be on me. She's a darling cuddlebug, and maybe I'm jumping the gun here, but I need some help... If I put her on her cage, so she can get used to it, she flutters to the ground and follows me.... I know it's only been two days with her, but I'm hoping she finally figures it out, that she's in her forever home, and is able to relax. Any ideas out there how long this phase lasts?
  13. Each individual bird differs -- I've know CAG's that wont speak (My Friends, it only makes noises), and TAG's (My friends Husband's bird) that won't shut up... I've known the reverse, I've known CAGS that are really happy go lucky (My mom's bird) So from everything that I've experianced, the only REAL difference from the CAG to the TAG is . . .the look
  14. Sticks_n_stones - how old/new is your oven, it may not be teflon lined.... Red Eyed Dragon, I have a teflon lined oven, so there are 3 things I use to clean my oven... Baking soda, Vinegar, and elbow grese... Also, I ligned the bottom with a cookie sheet, so I don't have to clean that often...wonderful -- Now here's a quote from DuPont scientists themselves (Makers of Teflon) DuPont claims that its coating remains intact indefinitely at 500°F . Experiences of consumers whose birds have died from fumes generated at lower temperatures show that this is not the case. In one case researchers at the University of Missouri documented the death of about 1,000 broiler chicks exposed to offgas products from coated heat lamps at 396°F. DuPont also claims that human illness will be produced only in cases involved gross overheating, or burning the food to an inedible state. Yet DuPont's own scientists have concluded that polymer fume fever in humans is possible at 662°F, a temperature easily exceeded when a pan is preheated on a burner or placed beneath a broiler, or in a self-cleaning oven.
  15. I've been bitten pretty hard. They can break skin if they want to, but mostly your hand-fed fids dont bite as hard as the wild-caughts (now my info is DEF. Not black & white, there are ALWAYS exceptions) I actually feel my parakeet's bites are worse...only because they have that little pointy beak, like a needle it is! My grey's have all kept their beaks well trimmed. As for the shoulder thing...I don't let my grey sit on my shoulder, That close to my eye, and cheek, and ear. I'm not scared my CAG is going to bite me out of sheer spite, My fear is always, what if she slips, and graps onto my cheek to stableize herself, (Or my ear!) There are a million reasons I don't let my CAG on my shoulder, but looking into those eyes..its' hard not to let them get away with anything!
