  1. I have heard that lack of calcium can cause greys to be prone to falling off their perch, it is a good idea to have her checked out as soon as possible to see what is going on. I hope it is something that can be easily corrected and be sure to come back and let us know what is found out.

  2. Good Evening All, Apologies if i have posted this in the wrong forum but i wonder if you can provide some advice before i book my grey into the vets. I have a grey around 10 years olds and recently she has started falling from her perchs not all the time but sometimes she seems to stumble then falls to the bottom of her cage, i check her over well i try to but she quickly climbs back onto her perch whistleing away telling me to leave her alone. I have not had her long i had her passed to me by a family member who was not able to look after her anymore, i have spoken to them ad they say she used to do it but very rarly but im really concerned she is going to hurt herself. I have seen her fall between 2/3 times she is still very livly and very alert to her surroundings her food has not been changed and still remains on the same food she has always been, she has fruit daily but most of it ent up at the bottom of her cage as she dose not like them but really enjoys apples and grapes - non seed. im just wondering if any of you people have had simular issues like above that has been easly resolved. i am ooking at booking her into the avian vet asap just as a precation Thank you all in advance

  5. I figured out what is happening. Tyler, the 15-year-old has been moping around and acting depressed. The other day he was crying and feeling sorry for himself when we were talking to him and Brutus flew over to him and reached out his foot and touched his arm. Brutus hates to see people upset or sick. Twice when Dave was sick Brutus stayed with him until he got better by standing on his body as he lay in bed. It was so touching. He just wants Tyler to feel better and he cannot understand why he is so down-in-the-dumps. Tyler is seeing a therapist, but he is a teenager... His father and I will do anything for him but he cannot see it right now. Brutus flies at Tyler in an attempt to correct his mental state. Clear as day for me now. I love Brutus so much!

  8. Welcome and please go to a vet as Judy suggested, I agree with Judy...A lack of D3 and calcium are of major concern..Get your baby some sunshine and hard boil a egg, cut in half and feed it, egg shell and all. I personally wouldn't give any supplement without a vets okay..

  10. Yes, she has done it for years and often prefers it to a plate! Thank you Talon for the wonderful picture. Try it with your Zons...When I give her a plastic spoon, she recycles it by chewing it up after she is done...hahahahaa....

  11. Oh wow, that's amazing. I think Alfie would probably just throw the spoon at my head. Or maybe throw it across the room and expect me to fetch it for him so he can do it again.

  13. Just a Bird From time to time, people tell me, "Lighten up, it's just a bird," or, "That's a lot of money for just a bird." They don't understand the distance traveled, the time spent, or the costs involved for "just a bird." Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a bird." Many hours have passed when my only company was "just a bird," but I did not once feel slighted. Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by "just a bird," and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a bird" gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day. If you, too, think it's "just a bird," then you will probably understand phases like "just a friend," "just a sunrise," or "just a promise." "Just a bird", brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy. "Just a bird", brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person. Because of "just a bird", I will rise early, and look longingly to the future. So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a bird" but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future; the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment. "Just a bird" brings out what's good in me, and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day. I hope that someday they can understand that it's not "just a bird," but the thing that keeps me from being "just a human." So the next time you hear the phrase "just a bird." just smile, because they... ...."just don't understand." We do.... :-) Anon
