  1. One must know one's place if he was born a peasant.

  2. Wow! I am in awww of the smart, talented, skilled amazing members we have here. Sometimes in our busy lives, we focus on our greys and forget that everyone has another life that they have to live outside of our greys. I feel so lucky to have a family here of such wonderful talented people who take time out of their busy days to come here, share and help. I feel so blessed...❤️❤️

  3. Would it surprise you my degree is in Emergency Medical sciences, but I cant sing worth a shit LOL, well my wife thinks so. I just got sucked into computer's while being bored on an offshore rig as a Paramedic. Would it also surprise you that the ability in psychiatric training could sometimes mean the difference between life and death? You have to size up a human being in milliseconds and decide if they will kill you or they can talk them down. Much more difficult then coding, With coding you can go back and correct it, life and death, no going back.

  4. Kevin, you are very kind. I was good at what I did in my prime. I was a vocalist, classically trained and then a registered nurse, and did very well in psychiatric nursing. I still have that skill. True, we all have our abilities. It is just I am in awe of what you can do.

  5. Kitty, there is no more important or no less important things we do or know. God gave us all individual skills and specialties. Just because one seems more complicated then other's, is because that is not our skill. I do not know what your skill is, but I'm quite sure you do it better then I.

  6. Interesting, because it works the same way with DOD contractors. My brother, who worked for the same contractor as I did worked in testing and implementation has worked from his home for 15 years. Me, they put on a flight to the first place God never meant anyone to live LOL. Although In the defense and intelligence areas, I can see where picking apart a blown up hard drive is time sensitive. They however have moved on to SSD drives (Far easier to extract info from platters) and new encryption levels, and the technology increases exponentially, it is hard to keep up with it. If I were a betting man after another 1 or 2 years Edward Snowden won't be worth going after, because everything he knows will be out of date. This is purely speculation and not classified. (I hate having to qualify everything lol) But with what is going on in the business so to speak, better safe than sorry.

  8. I'm actually not a front-end developer. I have a like/hate for front end work. I like it in that you can actually see something cool (or hideous in some cases) when you're done. But on the flip side it's what everyone bitches about because they can see it. We just finished a three month long project developing an Angular/Node.js front end to our call processing server which is by far the most critical piece. The front-end was a very small part of the project. Yet we're a typical company where a few of us do the work while the rest justify their positions and you can guess what they chose to complain about! It would be impossible for them to find something wrong with the throughput of the call processing or scalability issues or something useful because they have zero skills but that's how it works. It sucks too because those of us in the development group are not allowed to work from home whereas test/documentation/implementation/etc are. The owners know who makes the grass grow. However back in 2006 when the economy went to crap and they needed to cut the fat...guess which groups were let go - not one developer ate it. All that to say I'm actually sort of a backend dev: some middleware, some database, c++ tools & utilities etc. I get dragged into front-end work usually kicking and screaming.

  9. People sometimes think about what they don't have, but I submit to you, think on those things you do have. Friends, Family, Health and a myriad of things I could list here. As an example, I thank God I have sight, and hearing and just the ability to walk around as a normal human everyday. Be thankful for what everyone takes for granted. The place I returned from, most folks don't have that luxury. Be Thankful for the time you have to spend with the folks that are alive and you still have the time to make amends, for one day you will not. But most of all give thanks to God for giving you one more day to do the right thing. I pray for the ones we lost, I hope their families can find a way to be thankful for there efforts in keeping everyone safe as can be. And most of all I am thankful for each and everyone of you for helping me get Sukei home.

  12. No feed back LOL, so maybe someone can give me an opinion. Is this a reputable organization? Is there anyway to tell? There is no phone number or I cant find one. He is willing to drive from Ohio to visit and possibly rescue him. http://www.lonelygreyrescue.org/asite/Adoptables.html links to https://www.petfinder.com/bird/bingo-36400175/nj/woodbridge/lonely-grey-rescue-nj775/

  13. Well Ill tell you. I was not expecting any CSS help, apparently you have untapped talent (SRS) I just threw the sheet out there out of pure frustration. SRS pointed me in the right direction, and after finding the way this software works, found the issue. I just don't like designing sites, I like to keep the databases and servers working, along with the networking systems themselves, data forensics that's what we did over seas, they really didn't care what things look like, just the raw data and intelligence. You will find that a great many things depend on what you need, or what you think you need. As far as beating the the thing to death, sometimes that's what it came down to, your team depends on you. It carried over I guess, I don't like to lose. I suggest you may have other untapped skills and resources at your disposal, maybe you can avail yourselves of them. Sometimes they just don't like to come out and say what they can do. I don't mean just computers, but other untapped human resources of your members. Maybe with some thought, you can increase traffic, and Help The Grey's more. Just to throw things out, maybe a non profit organization for Grey's the very thing this site is based upon. Maybe a group to lobby Congress for the plight of the Grey's. I know everyone is busy with their lives, just trying to get by. Just a thought..........I'm just a former DOD contractor and IT guy. Im good at what I do. What are you guys good at doing? I Know what SRS is good at lol

  14. Well perhaps the location is a problem, the only way I know to rescue a grey is to go to a place no one would go. Perhaps maybe some advise on how to do it. I googled the subject but there seems to be some conflicting information. Any thoughts?

  15. I posted part of this some time ago. Corky has a way of getting into things as I`m sure your greys are good at. Always know where your keys are. Two things that happened in one month. I was out side in front of my garage when the panic alarm went off on my car .I checked my pockets and I did not have my keys on me so I went into the house to get them only to find Corky playing with them. One month later I was in my yard and as I was walking back to the garage my car started up, again I checked my pockets and I did not have them my keys so back to the house only to find Corky on the kitchen counter playing with my keys. Note to myself: Self; always make sure your keys are in your pocket or hanging in the key box. Or the next time you might see your car going down the driveway. I`m surer many of you have stories about your Greys antics that will bring a smile to our face.so lets share some stories of how our Greys outsmart us from time to time. P.S. There is a sequence you must follow to remote start your car. I wander who told her?

  16. That's pretty funny. Before I read that part, I was waiting to see if you were going to say the Grey started the vehicle. I'll have to think on this one. I've seen some pretty hilarious videos of Greys that are learning to operate those Amazon echo's. I think the funniest one was someone posted a video of them going through the grocery list and it was quite obvious who was adding items to the grocery list.

  17. Thanks. My neighbour wasn't able to get a satisfactory response from head office, so I've told her I can't risk it. The only reason I considered it was that when I was sitting in her house a couple of feet away from a melter I didn't get an immediate headache the way I do with most fragranced things. I was there for over an hour and no headache, no sinus problems. But our birds are even more sensitive than me so I'm not going to try it. Thanks for your responses.

  18. The biggest safety issue with candles is the lead used to keep the wicks upright when it burns lead is released into the air. I am sure some of the scents may be detrimental but the lead is dangerous to birds. Quoted form Nature Chest "Scented candles, potpourri, incense, plug-ins, as well as other products containing a high concentration of volatile oils (essential oils) can cause either stimulation or depression of the central nervous system, as well as possible irritation to the eyes, nose and upper respiratory tract, depending on the oil and concentration used. Birds are very susceptible to the effects of inhaled volatile toxins, including essential oils. Any volatile oil (fragrance) has the potential for causing illness and possible death in birds. Obviously the concentration in a product and the length of exposure are factors to be considered. Many manufacturers have started making their cleaning products more pleasing to the senses by including these essential oils also. Products containing a high concentration of volatile oils should be avoided completely if you own a bird. Usually the more "perfumey" the smell, the more toxic the product."

  19. well carpet shopping didn't go as well as I had hoped. Actually, in some ways just as I expected. Rite Rug would have been my choice. They had the most co-operative people. They would have laid the carpet out in their warehouse for a week before coming to install it. They had the best looking carpet too! Problem - they cost more than twice as much. The next place had green plus carpets, though not as nice a selection. They will NOT lay out the carpet. They will NOT install it after we laid it out somewhere. So, the best solution we have come up with. Wait until Spring. Move Peanut out of the house for at least a week. Install the carpet, have the carpet cleaned (just steam), open the windows and put a few fans on it. Not perfect, but the best we can do. O, the floors were twice as much as carpet. I am not paying for this, so can not go there.

  20. I found soy wax sprinkles under PINK ZEBRA. It didn't say anything about the fragrance used, however. I would not use it because even the best of essential oils can be toxic to our fids.

  23. I really admire you for all that you did to get Sukei home, and I'm grateful for your efforts in updating the forum. I know this site isn't as active as it used to be, but maybe now that we're not getting flagged by Google we'll get some fresh members around here to liven things up. I'll never stop checking the forum for updates because you all were so helpful to me even before I brought Dorian home.

  24. This site had a host of problems and I am trying to get used to the new format, will take a while but it looks good and we are grateful you took the time and maybe money to get this site cleaned up and running. I agree that there is always someone out there who is learning to hack even the most secure sites, the more security we utilize the more the hackers work to undo them, kind of a game to see who can do it first but we do appreciate what you have done for us. It does make us happy to know this forum may have helped in getting Sukei home to you as no one of us would have wanted to have to leave our beloved companions behind when moving to another country, knowing you both are happy is enough, thank you.

  28. Make no mistake, I know im new even after a few years, and ill have to earn yall's respect, but the site was dying and we just saved it. I wish there was a few computer guys here, I could share the code with, that was backed into this place and could understand it. Google understood it and marked the place. Now everything is HTTP encrypted, and is not at much risk as it was. Make no mistake, no mater how good you are, no matter how many security protocols you put in, your still at risk, however, its like car thieves, if the door is locked they move on to the next one. Soft targets. I hope the protocols we put in here will stop this kind of crap. But as I said, Im thankful for all of you for helping me get Sukei home. Ill be forever grateful.

  29. Roof ramping to complete the tie-in between the house and the aviary is almost complete. We're looking at a couple samples of the the corrugated paneling we are going to use. This stuff is called 'SunTuf' and has a 15 year hail damage warranty. So it should standup to some abuse. We have clear (90% light transmission) and a solar grey (35% light transmission). We're thinking of going with the solar grey because of the brutal summers here. And a nice closeup of how we're doing the tie-in:

  31. Wouldn't putting the vinegar in boiling water kill the beneficial bacteria (the 'mother')? Thought about giving your recipe a try, because I know my fools will be tripping over themselves for anything with a little honey in it, but not sure about boiling water with the vinegar.

  32. For my pigeons I mix it 2.5-3 tablespoons per gallon of water. This comes from a lot of experience from the flying pigeon gurus so that's what I use. They only get it once in a while.

  33. What dosage level do you use? give them some in their water dish once a week maybe 1/4 teaspoon.

  34. I use Apple Cider Vinegar with the mother. My chickens, high-octane high-flyer pigeons and the tyrants living in my house get it.
