Bottom of the cage

Hi everyone,

 

Just a quick question. What shall I put in the bottom of the cage when Gizmo arrives tonight?

 

I was thinking cut up newspaper would be fine?

 

Would I put it in the tray where they poop?

 

I'm so inexperienced

I would put newspaper down on the bottom of the cage but put down some towels or a blanket underneath the paper to cushion a possible fall off a perch. The newspapers will catch any poops and you can change it often as needed.

 

Gizmo arrives tonight, I know you are so excited, please share some pics when you can.

You may want to have the perches slightly lower down in the cage to start with,increase there height every few days,baby greys can tend to be a little clumsy climbing around their cage

 

Newspaper is fine.

We put newspaper on the bottom of our cages and it works very well. I just lay a few sheets flat and peel the top layer when it's soiled.

i put paper at the bottom of montys cage but iv got a grill so he cant get at it, would you suggest i remove the grill and let him tear up the paper and forage for any dropped food?? i clean his cage every day and he doesnt poop in there so wouldnt be walking in poop

Yes i would Di,my greys dont have cages but my Macaw loves to shred the newspaper & picks up dropped food,i removed the grill from her cage & like you change it daily.Im sure Monty will have fun in there & you could add some foot toys for him to have a play with

I just brought home Darcy, my 3.5 mo old Grey this weekend. I highly suggest you put down something soft on the bottom of the cage for your baby to land on when he/she falls. Darcy fell twice this weekend :ohmy: and I was glad to have the pillows and blankets on the bottom. I did cover them up with newspapers. I have a double Macaw cage for Darcy and on Saturday evening I put in the divider and many perches at different heights. He hasn't fallen since then.:cheer:
