CharlieLaw Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 My Partner made a lovely Playstand for my African Grey, but he doesn't even like looking at it, never mind going on it. How is the best way to try and encourage him on to it. We've tried putting his favourite toys on, and that hasn't worked either! Charlie is almost 6 months old, is he maybe too young? He has got one proper tree branch in his cage, and he loves stripping it, so bark isn't a new object to him. Any advice would be helpful. Thank you.
judygram Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 That looks like a nice playstand, maybe if you could add a bowl to put some treats in it might entice him on it, let him see you put them in the bowl then stand back and see what happens. Greys are very cautious birds and it takes them a while to accept new things.
kave70 Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 It takes Sam a long time to adjust to anything new. I would just leave the playstand where Charlie can see it for several days, and casually bring him closer to it, without asking him to step on it. With Sam, the fright wears off with familiarity. Maybe it will be the same for Charlie. It's a cool looking stand!
murfchck Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Very nice stand! My guy HATES anything new. Took him almost 5 months to play with anything i got him, he is still cautious about them but i have seen him kissing his bell lately! (took right to a whiffle ball, go figure! Lol) Give him time to get use to it and do the bowl with treats for him on it!
CharlieLaw Posted July 13, 2012 Author Posted July 13, 2012 thank you to for your responses, I will try putting some food on the table for him. Jayd, its not slippery - its made from Sycamore branches and we have since covered the base with newspaper. The base is smooth, but not slippery.
