I always take my hat off to all the crafty folk on this forum and their home made this and that - well, you are all very lucky! I'm naff at making things and therefore the pet shop industry gets my money!

Well - if to add insult to injury, Harvey loves dried corn on the cob (they are produced for chipmunks and the like) and come on a plastic clip to stick to their cages. Well, Harvey much prefers to chew the clip out, drop the (extremely heavy) corn cob to the bottom of his java stand (which is wood, which echoes, which makes a hell of a noise!!)

So, what's the point of wasting your money - you lot are great - Harvey prefers the plastic clip!!! ;)

I too am the guy who pays 16 dollars for that mobile thingie with plastic and wood parts that probably amount to not even a fraction of the cost. I am going to try to make some and already have done a few contraptions which I will have to take pictures of (if there is anything left of them by the time I get to photograph them). I find that with all of the remaining parts of old toys...I can usually tie some plastic bits to them and Issac goes to town.

Oh yes...the dried corn is a favorite for sure. :)

I get a lot of my fids toys at the Dollar Store. I have gotten so I just buy toys on line from the "parrot stores" when they are on sale. For foot toys Ana Grey likes plastic bottle caps and plastic straws. Saves me a fortune in toys. The homemade Atom I made is a real hit and that just cost me $3 dollars and a few nuts and bolts!

I'm am about as thrifty as you can get, and I love it.

Thats great to hear, I too like many of the others here am not crafty or clever and have to buy most of my bird's toys but I do find bargains from time to time and I give Josey some bottle caps and straws to play with as she loves them.

What sorts of things do you get from the dollar store? Seems like a great idea, I'd just be worried I might pick up the wrong thing with the wrong kind of paint, or something along those lines...

We actually stumbled on some good bird toys mixed in with the doggie toys in a huge bin at a Big Lots the other day. Something like $2 each so we grabbed a few in different colors :) Whats funny is this was after visiting all the local pet stores and buying at least a toy at each for up to 5 times as much :P

I shop like you but not so well, can never remember the coupons by the time I get to the check out and remember they are at home. Impress with your paper towel story that would save a great deal of money can you share that with us?

Well today I went to the Dollar Tree and picked up a few things (like those plastic straws)... One thing I bought was a set of some colorful plastic shot glasses, the ones that are taller and skinnier than the usual ones. I chopped up some carrot, broccoli, apple, and put it in one of the cups along with a few pieces of dried spaghetti and one bit of cheese (which I made sure Jacques saw me include =P )

It was pretty entertaining to watch him try to pick everything out, unfortunately most of the carrot and broccoli he tossed aside =\ and he didn't seem to interested in figuring out how to get to the bottom of the cup when his beak could no longer reach the foods... But it did keep him entertained, so I think i'll continue to try it...

Lol Jill - Harvey's mate is sitting right here - £££s spent on wood and sisal toys, and all Alfie wants to chew are cigarette papers and the couch!

Some excellent ideas folks - thanks.
