  1. Welcome to you and noodles! I hope things are starting to settle down a bit for you both now. Others have already given good advice. Feel free to make new threads if you have any other questions. Everyone here are always willing to help out.
  2. Welcome to the forums! I'll second what others have already said- pictures when possible please!
  3. I've never been lucky enough to get up close with an Amazon parrot before. But if the opportunity ever presents itself, I will make sure to take a big long look.
  4. Way to go Dorian! Alfie refuses to come out of his travel cage when he gets home from being somewhere. Doesn't matter if it's going to the vet to have his beak sorted (which is usually an annual thing, thankfully) or whether he's just come with me to visit my parents (he grew up in my parents house so it's nice to take him back there every so often). When I get him home I have to leave the door open and let him get on with it. I offer him a hand to step up on to every so often and he'll usually either ignore it or ask for scratches instead. Eventually after a while he will step up or climb out of the cage himself. It doesn't bother me, as I expect it each time. I just wonder what's going on inside his head, bearing in mind he doesn't really like going in the travel cage in the first place. You'd think he'd be out of it like a shot when the opportunity arose... but no. He doesn't puff up or get angry about it- he just seems to like sitting there for a bit before coming out. I wonder if he feels the need to just readjust after visiting a different place. I know he doesn't really like being in the car all that much so maybe he just needs a bit of quiet/calm time to reflect before he wants to get out and play/explore/fly/go back to his big cage.
  5. Sometimes an animal will choose you rather than the other way round. I'm never quite sure if I'm a believer in "fate" or "everything happens for a reason" but sometimes, things just seem to fall into place and work out ok. Well done you for giving Peanut a home. Please do let us know how you all get on. We'd love to see some photos when you're able to get them. There is so much information available on the forums so do have a good look round. If you have any questions then don't be afraid to post them. I've found that everyone here is willing and happy to share their knowledge and will help you regardless of how silly you think the question might be. Welcome!
  6. Aw that's quite sweet, as well as amusing. I love that Sophie is such an integral part to your household. Just a thought about Ryan... It may be that he just doesn't want you to worry about him.... but by not telling you, he's making you worry even more! When he's ready, he'll share. I go through this with my parents a lot. I don't actively keep things from them, but I'm quite a private person and need time to try and work out problems on my own before I talk about them. So they usually hear about it after the fact- during which time they are super worried about what's going on!
  7. Echoing Dave's question as I'm curious as to why you wouldn't want him to like you. In addition, I purchased a bath to hang on the inside of Alfie's cage. It's made of plastic and he can either stand on the side or climb right in to bath. Many months later he is more interested in chewing in it or standing on top of it than he is bathing in it..and still bathes in his water bowl... which he can probably only get one awkward foot in to! Greys are contrary beings and operate by the rules they invent.. not ours!
  8. Hello and welcome to the forums! What brings you here? Do you already have a grey or are you looking for more information about getting one?
  9. Hello and welcome to the forums! They are both lovely looking greys! I don't think I've heard of a cameron grey before so will be interested to learn more.
  10. Is he saying Alex as well in there? Sounded like "Alex.. good!" Alfie was listening intently and kept responding with the odd whistle! Love the video. He definitely thinks he's a good boy! Hehe He is very lucky to have ended up with you!
  11. Good luck! I'm sure Sophie will adjust... eventually! But at least you get to spend more time with her now.
  12. FANTASTIC NEWS!! Baby/Charlie the parrot has been found! The shop owner posted this video: And it was also posted here: https://www.facebook.com/GMPTraffordSouth/timeline/story?ut=43&wstart=0&wend=1441090799&hash=610224191088033483&pagefilter=3 Amazing news. Although I'm pretty much the other side of the country to where this happened, I'm really relieved for the owner. Baby must have gone through a horrific time but at least he's home safe and sound now. The person responsible has been charged with burglary and is awaiting his day in court.
  13. What an awesome update. Thank you for taking the time to post. Glad you're feeling better now too!
  14. That latest photo is adorable. Look at those lovely blue feather coming through. And those tail feathers! The beak is looking good on Chulo!
  15. Here's a thread I just found on it: http://www.bengalcatforums.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=15913&hilit=homemade+raw It has lots of links and also one recipe on there.
  16. I'm a member of a bengal cat forum and some people on there would make their own cat food by grinding up chicken (bones and all) and offal. There are a few recipes on there somewhere which provide instructions on how to make it so that the cat gets all the required nutrients. Is something like that worth a shot?
  17. I don't think it makes any difference. There are several members here who have birds with male names who are actually female and vice versa. The bird won't know any difference.
  18. Too true! He knows exactly how to play me!
  19. So Alfie finally went on his orbit today! ...but only because he is currently refusing to go to back in his cage. It was the lesser of two evils... the orbit or the cage.... He chose the orbit! He did knock the bell about a few times- but I think he was imagining my head as he was doing it..! I'm hoping he's now realised that he can get on and off the orbit quite easily (he climbed off it onto his tree without problems) so maybe next time he'll go on it to enjoy it as opposed to using it as an escape route!
  20. Interesting question! I'm afraid I have no clue about the answer though..!
  21. Hello and welcome to the forums! Izzy is a lovely looking bird! Well done you for taking her in! A week and a half is nothing in grey time. Izzy is still settling in to her new home, sussing everything out and probably trying to figure you all out as well. Don't be surprised if her "favourite" swaps from time to time or if her behaviours towards different people change.
  22. Awesome photos! Thank you for sharing them. Maalik is a lovely looking grey. And Ziggy! I love Electus'! If I thought I could fit another bird in then I'd seriously consider an Eclectus!
  23. I can't really answer about the sexing as I've never bothered having Alfie tested so don't know a lot about it. However, I recently got Alfie microchipped. He hasn't shown any signs of irritation after being 'chipped and he wasn't bothered about having it done. your vet will check all the details to be registered are correct (e.g your name, address, contact details etc etc) and then this will be entered on a register with the number from the chip. (I got given a few copies of the barcode with the chip number on it for my records) If your bird is lost and taken to a vet/animal shelter, they can scan the bird for a chip. They'll then cross-check this information against a central register which will match the bird up to your details and allow them to contact you.
  24. This is awesome- thank you for taking the time to post all of these updates and photos. I'm really enjoying watching him grow! I am amazed by macaws. Though not a breed I would necessarily consider owning myself, I always love seeing photos/videos etc of them.
  25. Welcome to the forums Al and Rex! He's a real cutie! Post away with any questions you have. Everyone is super helpful here. Definitely make use of the subforums, like you mentioned- your questions will get a lot more answers that way.
