Just make certain that it has not been treated with a pesticide, my Grey will chew them up once in a while. It does make the food bin smell really good. Star Anise is also popular with some parrots.
This is one of those questions where the answer depends on the individual bird. My Grey hates showers or spray misting and swears it never rains in Africa. I know other Greys that delight in bathing and will even use their water bowls as a bath tub. There are shower perches available that have suction cup mounts if you would like to try that. I would suggest letting the bird perch on the rail and watch you enjoy the shower once or twice before trying to introduce the bird to the shower and make it fun.

Hope every one can see him he is reputed to be a Timneh. Very sweet little guy maybe we can all wish him some feathers.
Wow the news is great and who knew how well things would be looking right now after such a serious injury. Good work and glad to hear the clinic is owning their error. Will keep sending out those healing thoughts.
The average weight for CAG or Tag's ranges between 400 grams for the smaller birds to around 450 ish for the larger representatives of the species. Pookie stays around 425grams-dainty girl.
Great thread subject very interesting but nothing that answers all involved in this question. So I will add my equally incomplete two cents. Since most Parrots are sight feeders it would seem safe to surmise that they learn what is safe from watching their flock mates, as they watch what we eat in our homes.

Post edited by: Greywings, at: 2010/02/10 18:42
they can always do a toenail collection in a capillary tube that is pretty safe and can spin it down and send for what ever tests they cannot do in house. Where is the cloesest College or University that trains PreMed or Veterinary students, perhaps a Professor could help? You will always deserve Karma for your efforts and your caring.

Post edited by: Greywings, at: 2010/02/10 18:14
The word is that nothing easy is worth the effort so since this is so difficult we will be sending thoughts of success and health and hoping for the very best outcome.
Another thought just occurred to me-would it be possible to have a teleconference with the Vet and perhaps send him any samples required? Avoiding any need to travel for either party?

Post edited by: Greywings, at: 2010/02/10 16:12
Poisonous Birds: Discovered in Papua New Guinea; "Species of Pitohui and Ifrita have a potent toxin in skin and feathers that repels parasites and predators." Hummm sounds like more than one species? Don't you love copy & paste?
Name a bird species that has been domesticated for several centuries.
