Corky was 9 weeks old when we got her and she came home at 16 weeks. She never said her first word until she was 25 months old and it was her name Corky.

Gosh 3 birds later, I’ve had talon since she was 6 weeks old...I think if I remember correctly ..her first words were “step up”..not 100% certain tho...

I kind of hope that they teach their new companions how to swear so it spreads even further. 😂

I wish Alfie would do the same with his veggies. I can serve it up any which way I want, he'll still ignore it or fling it across the cage!

Well Monday will be 3 months with Vannah. A couple weeks ago my husband started waiting for her to climb down off her cage, which was the only time he could pick her up. He picked her up like normal, but started taking her into the bathroom (stool covered of course) and negan routine training with her on stepping up. Though she knew how, she wouldn't do it for him unless she was on the floor. It took about a week, and now she will come off the cage for him. We are both a bit relieved because he'd have to wait to go anywhere until I was home of Vannah got hungry and went inside. We were worried about this for emergencies too. She still doesn't like him, but her level of tolerance is growing. With me, she will do anything. For only having her 3 month I am shocked at how well she's adjusted. She lets me put new things in her cage, she lets me pick her up like a football if I need to, and she will try anything I ask her to. I didn't expect this kind of trust so soon.

Vannah liked fried chicken when she came to us, along with fries and crackers. She has crackers now without salt, and chicken bits I've cooken up for her without the oils, but no luck on the fries. I'm going to try the sweet potato thing and see if that works!

The sqewers and treat hangers are really the trick with her. There have been so many things that I put in her bowl and she wont touch, but I attach it to a toy or hang in and its gone!

This is a bit of a relief for me as a rehome companion. Though Vannah doesn't have fowl language or anything, there are some things I'd like her to stop saying. I was beginning to wonder if it was just wishful thinking that I could train her out of some phrases.

So we have been working on the veggies. Vannah is always asking for apple now, and I give her a piece of that or grape in the afternoon. She is eating carrots, broccoli, and romaine (the dark leafy kind, not the caesar salad hearts). She is eating the snap peas when I won't give in to more fruit. I have yet to find kale or swiss chard in my little town, but I'm sure I'll find it somewhere. I have tucked some pellets into her seeds for good measure until she's accepting more veggies. She is pretty insistent about getting crackers too. I found some unsalted that have flax seeds and a few other seeds on them. We have that as a treat too. I cooked up some beans, peas and lintels and I'm giving her a little of that. She's trying it, but not eating much of it. I'm giving all of this to our littles as well. Piper has never taken to any of this, and is still ignoring it. Dusty is loving it!
