For those of us that are still here & hanging on...I think we should re-group & remind all of us our fids & their ages..I could go back & do a search, but I thought it would be cool to have a place to just look at for the few if us left.

	I'll go first:

My first grey (actually it was my son's but I inherited her) Talon Timneh Age: 20 years My second: Rikki (rescued from a member here) Congo Age: 20 Years Nilah Amazon Age: 16 Years

Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends here from Timber and myself. It's been a hard year with the passing of a couple of very close family members, but there is much to be grateful for. Timber had his annual checkup at the avian vet and everything looked good. His meds are controlling his seizures, and his weight is stable.

Wishing you and years a blessed Thanksgiving and a joyous upcoming Christmas season!

Ok, some of you were here and saw what was posted earlier, and well it got hacked again because of no security patches. This had to be paid, and I asked for some help paying it. I did get a small donation.

Im just tired of this and was going to keep my good backup and keep rolling it back, but that would be stupid, anything you took time to post would be lost. And I am tired of cleaning the mess up so I just paid the $199.

I Hope that gets us over the hump as the updated software has a patch in it. Im sure Talon will appreciate not having to look at red warning flags everytime she logs on.

I know no one is made of money as you can see that gives us another year of life.

I would appreciate it if folks could chip in $5 or $10 here and there over the next year. Ill keep a running total.

If you don’t have to do it all at once, it isn’t too bad.

So thats it. Next time, ill probably let it go.

Since I seem to be collecting Greys and collecting Kings Cages carriers to go with them, I set up a nice sleeping area for them. When we moved from our previous house, one of the deals I cut was my Greys get to sleep in the bedroom with me. Wife has regretted making that deal a few times since we were sleeping them on a perch and occasionally Huey would flop into the bed in the middle of the night or Greycie would do similar. It got bad enough that Huey ended up in a cage. I never had a similar cage to put Greycie in so she got away with it for a while longer. Lo and behold ANOTHER Kings Cage came up in one of my alerts 20miles from my house. I bought it on the spot. I had this steel cart that I bought a while back and decided to measure and see if the cages I had collected would fit. Fit like they were made for each other! Now everybirdy has their own sleepy cage, complete with a little treat dish, and best of all - 100% black out curtains. What we have found is, these birds zonk out under those black out curtains. I have never had sleepy greys when I get them up in the morning. They are usually fidgeting and waking us up at 4:30 or thereabouts. Now I can sleep in to 6 or even 6:30 if I've been up all night on a work call. THe light can start coming into the room and they have no idea.

I went back to the Think Parrots Show again this year! This year I decided to break the driving up and stayed in a hotel for two nights, as it meant less stressing about timings and traffic etc. So I drove down on the Saturday and came back the Monday. The hotel was about 2 mins away from the venue and the show was on the Sunday. This meant I could enjoy the show and not have to worry about driving back or leaving early etc. It took about 2.5 hours to get there and about 4.5 hours to get home (traffic on the M25 was atrocious!)

I took Alfie with me and this is the first time he's stayed in a hotel. I wasn't sure how he would react but as usual, he took everything in his stride and had a lovely time! I stocked up on all sorts of toys and treats for him which should hopefully last a while.

Here's some photos of our adventure!

	Inside!
We saw lots of other parrots and watched all three masterclasses on various topics. There were loads of vendors there selling all sorts of parrot related goodies. It was a great day. Alfie wasn't too worried and enjoyed all the fuss and attention he got- except when people tried to poke their fingers in his cage (why do people do that?!). I warned them but then he gave them an extra stern warning by lunging at them if they didn't get out of the way quick enough!

There was also a free flight display - which wasn't quite as well organised last year. Last year there was one guy with lots of different parrots and he intoduced them all, talked about them for a while and demonstrated them free flying. This year it was a group of people with lots of macaws who let the bird free fly but didn't really talk much. It was impressive to watch them all flocking together but then it went a bit wrong when some seagulls took an interest. One landed on top of a large sign and refused to come back, one got chased into a tree and hunkered down to get away from the seagulls, one ended up on the venue roof and wandered off.

If you haven't seen my original post about Odie: https://greyforums.org/topic/26222-my-long-lost-odie-podie/#comment-282822

Odie has finally come home after 30+ years. When I went to see Odie in 2019, my aunt told me she wants Odie to come back to me. She actually put that in her will. So when she passed away a in April, I asked my mother who lives in the area to go get Odie. Four weeks later I hit the road to New Mexico. Unlike last time when I met Odie, Odie knew who I was right off the bat. There was no shyness, or acting like he was unsure if he wanted to be on this 'new' person. In 2019 he didn't know who I was until I started talking to him the way I used to and you could see the light come on. He looks like he's in terrible shape from all the feather plucking. My aunt told me this started when TIgger died who was his buddy bird that was also another bird I had way back when.

Odie is full of personality. We believe he's male although I've never tested him. Has huge feet! He reminds me so much of Huey that I accidentally call him Huey all the time. He loves to work on cardboard, just like Huey. Odie is a talker. He talks in my aunt's voice. He was not a talker when I had him years ago. He loves to tell my mom's bird, Kiwi, to 'shut up' and 'stop it' all the time when Kiwi gets into his squawk mode. After a while we were all telling Kiwi to shut up and stop it with Odie leading the chorus. He will ask 'want to go outside, hmmmm?' in my aunt's voice. He has rattled off some other sentences in her voice that I just can't make out. She always talked in a frail little voice so that's what he does. Odie loves to give kisses and loves a good head scritch, but if I do it too long or try to cuddle him to much, he will tell me to 'stop it'. 🤣 He's been fed a junk diet of bird store seed and peanuts his whole life. He transitioned well to the sprouts/cook that I feed. He acts like I feel, an old bird, seems to sleep more during the day. Loves to watch TV, I guess that's what he did with my aunt in the later years when she retired. He also spent a lot of time outside in the garden because he asks to go out a lot. He's not much for my wife, still shy around her and really doesn't want to be touched by her. I suspect that will change over time. With me, he seeks me out wherever I am. He can't fly so he gets on the floor and hikes it.

GreycieMae is being a brat about it all. The second day I had them all in the living room, she did one of her fake screams and a hot lap around the living room from the kitchen and got Huey and Odie launched. Odie ended up hanging from my pant leg and Huey was doing circles around the living room. Greycie did this when we introduced Toby for the first time. She is such a spoiled diva.

Odie seems to have busted airsacs. Whenever he whistles/talks and has his wings lifted I can see an air bubble under the skin that blows up and pulls back in. THat really bothers me. No idea how long that has been going on. Going to head to the vet about it and a general checkup although I'm not sure I want to hear any bad news. We'll see.

Hopefully I can give Odie a happy life from here forward. I feel really bad the condition he is in but all I can do is give him the best from here on. He seems to be a happy bird so I'll take that.

We've been thinking of how we could take Corey outside with us for a walk. We decided that we could modify a baby stroller for Corey [which we purchased at a thrift store] and place a net enclosure around the area where Corey would be sitting so she couldn't just fly away if something spooked her. We are now in the process of getting her used to sitting in the stroller. Next we will try to get her use to being in the stroller when we move it around the house.

Side note: There is no chance that a parrot leash would ever work with Corey and we could simply keep her on our hand or shoulder. Thanks for any ideas.

I have two Bengal cats, Widget and Pixel who are both indoor cats. They will be 14 years old later this year but are still quite energetic when they want to be. They co-exist with Alfie quite well and both learned from a young age to leave him well alone. They pay Alfie no mind and don't harass him whilst he is in his cage and I separate them when I let him out- they typically get the upstairs and Alfie gets the downstairs. My living room door handle had to be taken off and put back on upside down to help with this, as otherwise Widget could open the door and let himself in.

Anyway, this works well as the cats have everything they need upstairs and it gives Alfie enough room to fly around, get some exercise and generally cause all sorts of mischief.

The other day, Widget was asleep on the sofa in the living room and I needed to let Alfie out so I woke Widget up, gave him some fuss and then shooed him out of the room. I let Alfie out as usual and he flew over to his tree on the dinner table. Then he immediately flew over to his standing tree at the other side of the room. He then flew back to the original tree. That was a bit unusual as he usually stops somewhere to stretch and preen first. All of a sudden, Pixel scurries across the room, looking a bit worried. Last time I'd seen her, she was upstairs and I obviously hadn't noticed her wander in to the living room at some point. Alfie was still flying around because he knew it wasn't right that she was there. Thankfully, I was able to get Pixel to stop running around and picked her up to remove her from the room. Phew! Alfie then settled ok and we carried on with our evening.

I think Pixel was too scared of all the flapping to know what to do but I'm just so glad she didn't try and chase Alfie - or spot him before he spotted her.

The stupid thing is, I normally do check around the rest of the room to make sure I got both of them out. That one moment of complacency could have ended very badly... although I'm honestly not sure who would have come off worse with that one... either way, I felt very guilty for a good while after!

Have you ever slipped up/made a mistake and had a near miss as a result?

I know this probably gets old, but I’m trying to give examples.

He was in a bad mood tonight, and maybe you can use this. When your Grey is in a bad mood, they will let you know , and you can avoid flesh loss.

Sukie won’t bow his head and makes a click noise when you try to scratch them.

You should avoid being bitten. A lot of people post in the Parrot bit me thread.

You can avoid being bitten by recognizing your Grey’s mood.

	I know Sukie

That’s all I have. Have a good weekend.

This is a picture of Corey playing with my husband. John wraps her up in a t-shirt and bounces her above the bed in a birdie sling. She loves it: makes chicken sounds.

It's only taken us 20+ year for her to be willing to be on her back. When we first got her [as an adult] she would NOT step up to our hand. It "only" took about 6 months before she was willing to come out of her cage onto our hand. Like you guys say: it's "grey time".

On Sunday I went to the 'Think Parrot' show and I took Alfie with me. It's the second time I've been to this show- the last time was back in 2019 and it used to be an annual event. But unfortunately Covid and Avian flu shut it down for a few years. This is the first year they've run it since then so I decided to pack Alfie up in his travel cage and take his trolley with us so we could get around.

It's a great event with loads of different parrot/avian companies and organisations setting up stalls in the building. They run three "masterclasses" throughout the day that cover various topics about parrot/avian care and there's also a free flight demonstration outside. I managed to catch two of the three masterclasses and one of the free flight shows. I also stocked up on loads of toys and goodies for Alfie.

Alfie always amazes with me how much he takes things in his stride and doesn't freak out. It was crowded and noisy inside the building with so many people walking past or stopping to talk to us but he didn't seem to mind and apart from being a bit wide eyed at times, he was absolutely fine.

All in all it was a great day out and I will definitely go back again next year if it goes ahead. Although I think I'll try and see if there is a local hotel that will let me stay over with Alfie, as it was a LOT of driving in one day. It was a 246 round trip and I spent about 5.5 hours in the car in total... longer than I was at the actual event! At least if I know I have a hotel room nearby then I can stay later and see all of the masterclasses instead of having to leave early.

Masterclass two - around nutrition from the creator of 'Your Parrot' food. He seemed extremely knowledgeable and I have some of the food from his company to try with Alfie.

The third masterclass was on Feather Plucking but I had a long drive home and was feeling really tired and headache-y by then so didn't get to see that one.

Last night I was suddenly awakened to the sound of my flock thrashing about in their cages. I went out to see what had terrified them, but couldn't find anything wrong. Then, 2 minutes later, a very short, quick jolting earthquake occurred to which my birds again began frantically flailing around in their cages. Teak, my meyers parrot, was so terrified that she spontaneous released all but 2 of her tail feathers, poor thing.

I find it quite fascinating that birds become alerted to an imminent earthquake.

Hi everyone, can anyone tell me about female and male without dna test. Puppies from the same hatchery are approximately 9 months old. Their body structures and wings are different from each other, I think the male whose tail is clearly visible is a female whose wings are longer and extend to the tail, I would like to know your thoughts.

In the last few years, I have taken to saving paper brochures and magazines and making them available to our CAG, Corey. Corey bites and shreds the pages of these paper “toys”. They are easy to replace and if she poops on them, I just tear off the page. We let her stay on one of the counters in our kitchen so she can be with us [not the counters where we are preparing food] and I put these magazines/brochures on the flat surface there. When she tears them up, I simply sweep up the paper pieces. Also, I put them on top of her cage and fasten them there with 2” binder clips. [See picture/you can only see a small section of one of the binder clips that fasten the brochures to the top bar of the cage] When she wants to be on top of her cage, I frequently find her just resting flat on the brochures or magazines [if she’s not tearing them up]. I have never seen Corey actually consuming any of this paper material so [at least for Corey] this seems perfectly safe. Corey's Mom

Hi everyone! When I brought Baby home, she had several perches and toys in her cage. I was showing a picture of her to a bird store owner/boarder/rescuer and she was adamant that I take out the sand and pumice ones. I did it and replaced with some others but she really seemed to love rubbing her beak on those….and they are marketed as being for that purpose and for greys….what are your thoughts on the topic?

	Thank you !!!
