 It is time to get started on a “ HOW TO THREAD”

 This is a tutorial to get you started, I will be adding to it as we go & more features may be added.  As you may know, this site is still being worked on, tweaked as needed, & the settling in process will take some time, so please be patient.,…

After logging in, you have some options, there are tabs at the top:

BROWSE        UNREAD CONTENT        ACTIVITY       CHATBOX        GALLERY

Hold your mouse over BROWSE & you have options to click on.

Hold your mouse over ACTIVITY & you have options to click on.

Click on UNREAD CONTENT for the lastest posts. UNREAD CONTENT is the latest posts only.  If you click on the small bubble where it says the number of replies on that post, it will take you to the entire thread.

Another way to see the latest posts if to click on the Grey Forums at the top, it will take you to the home page, you can scroll down to see the African Grey Forums which will list the rooms, look to the right on the room & in RED will be the latest post in that room, click on the RED post, & it will take you to the thread showing the latest post.

Click on CHATBOX to see only the Chatbox.

Click on GALLERY & you can see the albums of other members & make your own album where you can post pictures & videos. 

On the HOME page, if you scroll all the way to the bottom, you will see THEME, click on that & you have the option to change the “look/theme” of the forum.

Anything you see in RED, you can click on & it will take you to that page.  You just have to be adventurous & not be afraid to check out the new format.  ?

There will be updates here as things are added etc.  REMEMBER: This is a work in progress, so please be patient with us while we work out the bugs & tweak it as needed. 

MOBILE FRIENDLY, for those of you like me who access this site mostly on my phone, it is very mobile friendly, which makes it very east to post pictures & videos directly from your phone, NO third party needed.

PROFILE:  Click on your profile & you will find many new options.  You can now customize  your Cover Photo. To change your Profile Picture, while on your profile, click on the small white square in the lower left of your profile picture, you have many options there.  During the transition, many of the profile pics are elongated, you can simply upload a new photo & it will replace the one there. 

SEARCH THREADS:  Now that all the “cancer” that was eating us alive prior to the conversion, you can now SEARCH for any topic dating back to the very first day of Greyforums.  There is a lot of very useful information over the many years, so have some fun & search away!

I love sitting on the complainer end!  We have these morons at work that their sole job seems to be to complain about the look and feel.  I usually want to tell them where to go.  We don't do too much front-end stuff so I only have to put up with it a little.   But this is fun!

I just wanted to share my experience here on the forum.

Although its been a short while since i have joined i cant express how much i love this forum and how friendly and helpful everyone is. No matter the issue or problem there has always been numerous replies to my threads and all helpful information. This forum has made me grow more confident that i am doing a good job with nonsense and also keeps me going on even when there seems to be a set back with her. I have learnt so much from all you experienced guys and im positive its just the beginning.

There's just ONE problem with this forum:

I get so jealous seeing and reading about all you guys and your birds and the relationship that you guys have with your pets. I'm envious when looking at pictures of birds stepping up and getting head scratches etc

I really hope one day i would have the same relationship with nonsense as many of you guys do with your birds.

Thanks to everyone who contributes to this forum and makes it a special place for those of us who struggle a bit.

For example, I read a sticky yesterday about someone realizing their birds would not step up in an emergency situation and the thread consisted of conversation and suggestions after that. There wasn't any clear, helpful plan of action given in this thread and if there was, it should have been in the very first post so people don't have to sift through pages of information to find it. In my opinion, a helpful sticky in that situation would be "How to Evacuate Your Birds in an Emergency" with clear instructions given in the very first post.

I would appreciate reading stickies that contain the most helpful information on the forum. Replies being turned off just keeps the focus on the sticky and keeps it uncluttered. This way, people can get the most important information without having to search and browse through the site. As it is now, I have stopped reading stickies after the first four or five. I just haven't found them to be consistently informative.

To see your total Reputation Points, you click on the Settings next to your log in at the top right of the forum page and scroll down....you will see your total Reputation Points and the users that gave you positive or negative reputation points and their comment if they left one. (You are the only one who can see your Reputation Page and your Reputation Points. That information is private).

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS NOT THE SAME AS GIVING THANKS TO A MEMBER FOR A POST THEY HAVE WRITTEN. THIS IS IN ADDITIONAL TO THAT OPTION. GIVING THANKS WILL NOT CHANGE A USER'S REPUTATION IN ANY WAY.\

How does the point system work?

1. All new users receive 10 rep points just for joining the forum as a member.

2. For every 30 days you are a member, you receive 1 point.

3. For every 100 posts you make, you receive 1 point.

4. For every 100 points you have, you receive an additional 1 point.

5. A user must have 10 rep points before their rep counts on others.

6. A user may give 10 reputation clicks over each 24 hour period.

7. You must give 20 different users reputation before you can hit the same person again.

New Members:

A new member must have 50 posts before their rep can add to anothers rep points. IF you see a new member under 50 posts has given you rep, but the bar on your rep page is NOT green, then that means they do not have enough rep power to alter yours in any way.

PLEASE NOTE: A RED bar means you were given a negative rep click. A non-color bar means that member has no rep power at that time.

Members who are no longer considered New Members under the Reputation Rules:

As each member receives Reputation Points, their Reputation Power increases based on the guidelines of other members and the points they have received over time. When a member clicks on the STAR to approve or disapprove of a post, that member (whose post they have clicked on) will have their reputation Level is altered by the number of points that the clicking member has for Power.

FYI: there are no 2 members here at the moment who have the same points in their power to give Reputation Points, some are as little as 10, some are as many as 585. What that means is... example: if I gave Judygram Reputation on a post, her level could increase by 472 if that were my power, or if I gave her a dis-approving reputation, her level would decrease, she would see I gave her a red bar on her reputation page and her reputation numbers would go down.

I have just added a Rep Power on each members info when they post. You may now see what your Power is. That is the number of points that changes their reputation level when you give them Positive Rep. or the number of points you take away from their Rep level if you give Negative Rep.

Any questions, I will do the best I can to answer in this thread. It is a very complicated system, however if you read it over and over, each time, a question may be answered. All you have to remember, is to click away at the STAR on the bottom left of a post if you like it, and you will have made a family member feel good, helpful, and like their contribution matters, which it does!

P. S. If you accidentally clicked a Negative click by mistake, please pm me and I can remove it. But PLEASE make certain the color is RED. Only RED is negative, NO color just means a member doesn't yet have the power to make a green one.

The only way this or any other source of information can remain valuable or relevant is if it continues to attract "users". All the good advice & "wisdom", all the good intentions, time & effort are worthless otherwise.

It would (or should) go w/o saying that can't be accomplished by being offensive. It is very offensive to most people to be disrespected. It is disrespectful to tell people what they feel is invalid.

Is it so damned hard to say "sorry" when posts aren't well received & simply rephrase in a different tone of voice? Because for every one poster who actually says they're offended & moving on, there's probably more, possibly a bunch more, who will simply leave w/o a word.

Either way, their birds cannot benefit when they're gone.
